Program Description:

Organization Overview
Arepita is the only daily email newsletter that curates and creatively repackages substantial news about Venezuela. With catchy subject lines and witty references, the newsletter covers topics from politics and economics to pop culture. Arepita seeks to create a community that uses journalism and creativity to understand what is happening in Venezuela, to share frustrations, to promote intelligent conversation, and to seek collaborative solutions.
Intern Responsibilities:
1. Grant Writing Intern

The intern will conceptualize and write grant applications for Arepita’s work, including new project ideas such as the Tribu app that will help connect Venezuelan migrants throughout Latin America. The intern will also research international cooperation agencies, foundations, and governmental funding in order to identify new funding sources for the company.

Ideally suited for someone with excellent writing and research skills, interest in community advocacy and support. 

Minimum Spanish level required: Fluent Spanish

2. Research Intern
The intern will research and propose automation solutions, algorithms, and artificial intelligence options to improve processes and generate new opportunities in different strategic areas of the Arepita’s media projects
Ideally suited for a candidate with strong research, computer, and analytical skills.

3. Communications Intern
The intern will analyze the company’s existing social media communications, research best practices in social media of peer companies, and propose an updated strategy for Arepita’s social media. The intern will also research and implement technology tools to help find news and trending content through more efficient and effective processes.
Ideally suited for a candidate with excellent writing, strong communication skills, and a creative mind.  

Minimum Spanish level required: Fluent Spanish

This placement is offered in collaboration with Puentes Abroad. In the internship through Puentes, interns will undertake project-based work that is designed to directly contribute to one of the internship site’s key work areas so that they gain real experience and know-how through substantial, mission-driven work.  The internships are overseen by Puentes and is perceived as a remote opportunity.
