The University of West Attica

Organization Overview
The University of West Attica is a newly established Greek state university with a long tradition given the fact that it was established after the merging of two Universities of Applied Sciences (ex-TEI’s of Athens and Piraeus) and the National School of Public Health. UniWA is one of the biggest Universities in Greece, including 6 Faculties (Schools), 27 Departments and accommodates more than 50,000 undergraduate and post-graduate students. The premises of UniWA are located within 3 Campuses (of the former Universities and the National School of Health) in the west suburbs of Athens (Egaleo) and downtown. UniWA has been awarded by the EU with ECTS and Diploma Supplement Labels.

Intern Responsibilities:

Textile Technology and Culture Intern
The University of West Attica acts as a host for a number of multidisciplinary research activities. The proposed internship position will engage the IIP intern in a respective research project that utilizes an assortment of scientific disciplines, such as textile technology and culture. The IIP intern will be involved in wearable, smart textiles or e-textiles. The intern will understand the aim of the project and they will examine the chances and the limitations imposed. This will also increase the ability of the intern to perceive the global aspect of the multidisciplinary work. The internship will include a cultural dimension with visits to the most important historical sites of Athens as well as the familiarization of the IIP intern to the European and Mediterranean culture.

The IIP intern will be engaged in research activities which relates to the study of multi-functional materials composed of complex mechanical as well as fibrous structures. They will be advised and guided to execute a number of measurements upon several types of fabrics, in order to fully comprehend the functional operations involved. As a result, the intern will immerse into a multidisciplinary research with a potential application in the field of culture. This internship involves several fields from various disciplines and can provide an opportunity to the student the sense of integrating technical knowledge with cultural aspects.
