Fogo Cruzado

Organization Overview
Fogo Cruzado is a Data Lab dedicated to mapping the incidence of firearm shootings in Brazilian metropolitan regions - currently operating in Rio de Janeiro and Recife. Their mission is to promote a culture of citizen security, in which civil society can participate in the design of public policies and their monitoring and evaluation, through the production of data/information in an autonomous and open way, as well as receive real-time information on the occurrence of shootings and thus keep safe.

Intern Responsibilities:

Data Analyst Intern
  • Adjustment of Fogo Cruzado’s databases of 2016 to 2018, to the new pattern of data systematization
  • Data collection through different kinds of media channels
  • Database consistency tests
  • Uploading information into the online system
  • Production of articles based on Fogo Cruzado’s data for their website (pending intern’s willingness and time availability)
  • Collaboration with Fogo Cruzado’s campaigns in social networks (pending intern’s willingness and time availability)

The organization seeks candidates with critical thinking and outstanding research skills who are willing to engage in a project with social impact and who are self-motivated and proactive. Candidates interested in Public Policy, Computer Science, Social Science or related fields are encouraged to apply.Candidates must have experience with data entry and excel databases. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in public safety.
Advanced Portuguese (reading and writing) is required.

This placement is offered in collaboration with Veredas Institute.
