Program Description:
Evea

Organization Overview
Evea is a social enterprise of sustainable fashion, with a vision of responsible and inclusive production that contributes to the conservation of biodiversity, the care of forests and the development of families and communities. They work with artisans, researchers, engineers, biologists, designers and communities, developing biomaterials for fashion, that are sustainable and of high quality.

Intern Responsibilities:

Evea's challenge is to preserve 1200 hectares of forest in the Amazon region through the empowerment of Amazonian families. The "Evea" model connects the rubber production of the Amazonian communities to the market. In 2020, Evea will focus on expanding a new line of Evea products as a rubber biomaterial. To help achieve this, the IIP intern will develop the following:
  • Develop an operations plan to ensure 2020 production (We are currently working on the improvement of the machine to produce rubber biotextile. The machine will be ready approximately in February 2020.)
  • Complete an international market study. The organization believes if it ensure the same quality as traditional leather, it will expand it's participation in other markets, which is why it's important to develop an international market study of the United States or other potential countries - exploring new industries as sustainable construction, deco, or other industry as fab lab.
  • Develop "The Rubber Route": The best strategy to show the potential of the Strategic Framework of Productive Conservation from the Amazon. (Strategic Framework for Productive Conservation: When a local rubber collector can provide income to his family through sustainable extraction, he has an incentive to protect the forests that provide him with that livelihood.)
Qualifications:
Interning at this company is a good opportunity for students who are interested in gaining experience in business development, social impact, responsible consumption of natural resources, fair treatment with producers and native communities. A background in business communications and marketing will be considered an asset.
Spanish is not required, but a basic knowledge will be useful.

This placement is offered in collaboration with Emzingo.
