Organization Overview
Asociación Centro Maya Servicio Integral is a non-profit organization located in Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, where the main economic activity is agriculture and the largest sector of the population belongs to the Mayan group Tz'utujil. The organization aids people with disabilities from age zero to age sixty living in the Municipalities of San Juan, San Pablo, San Marcos, San Pedro, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz La Laguna and Santa María Visitation. Programs offered by the organization are in the areas of education, health, and vocational training. Specific services offered within the programs include special education, physical therapy, language therapy, psychological care, occupational therapy, music therapy, garden therapy, nutrition and recreational programs.

Intern Responsibilities:

1. Marketing and Public Relations Intern
The IIP intern is expected to collaborate in some of the following projects:
  • Development of a clear protocol for the management and control of communication channels of the organization
  • Market Research
  • Creation of Photography and edits
  • Video recording and edits
  • Design for marketing and event promotion
  • Management of social networks and Web page
  • Measurement and report on the monitoring of network and web management progress
  • Promotion of the growth of followers and donors for the organization
Short trips to the municipalities and villages of the institution's coverage area my be required, with supervision.

Qualifications:
The organization seeks a proactive student with active listening skills, strong strategic thinking abilities, and outstanding teamwork abilities. We expect the intern to be interested in and have some familiarity with the area of Marketing and Public Relations; to be interested in working with children, adolescents and adults. Familiarity with working with people with disabilities and NGOs is preferred.
Intermediate Spanish is required.


2. Nutrition Program Intern
The IIP intern is expected to collaborate in some of the following projects/tasks:
  • Nutrition program monitoring
  • Coordination and logistics for the training program of parents and staff
  • Creation, implementation and monitoring of the nutrition menu
  • Research other organizations with nutrition programs and offer guidance on making strategic alliances
  • Research potential donors to finance the nutrition program
  • Elaboration of the nutrition program's educational materials
  • General Development Report for the program
Short trips to the municipalities and villages of the institution's coverage area may be required, with supervision.

Qualifications:

We expect the intern to be interested in and have some familiarity with the areas of Nutrition; Fundraising; Strategic Alliances; Strategic Planning; Marketing and Public Relations; to be interested in working with children, adolescents and adults. Familiarity with working with people with disabilities and NGOs is preferred.
Intermediate Spanish is required.

These placements are offered in collaboration with Veredas Institute.

If you are enrolled in the Global Health Program certificate, this internship will fulfill the GHP internship requirement.
