Organization Overview
Menterra Social Impact Fund is a venture capital fund that invests in for-profit enterprises driving impact at scale in Agriculture, Healthcare and Education sectors. Alongside its incubation partner Villgro, Menterra has built a holistic impact incubation-fund platform that has been at the forefront of evolving impact space in India over last 18 years. Through extensive experience in idea - scale journey of a company Menterra believes that just providing risk capital is not enough. To deliver impact at scale it has built a diverse team backed by stellar network of advisors.

Menterra’s deep sector focus is well aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Menterra investees are delivering impact at scale through 4 million+ tests focused on malnutrition and diabetes in rural and tribal areas of the country, significantly better STEM education to 300,000+ students in 1,000+ schools, consistent and fair market access to thousands of small and marginal farmers.

Intern Responsibilities:

1. Social Impact Fund Investor Research Intern
The IIP intern will:
  • Conduct research via phone interviews with institutional investors, foundations and family offices focused on or interested in investing in social impact fund targeting agriculture, healthcare and education sectors in India.
  • Create a brief profile of all the investors covering their mandate, areas of focus and programs they have funded in the last five years. This project will largely cover impact funders based out of the US and Europe. Other regions may be covered based on the bandwidth and duration of their internship.
The IIP intern working on this project will directly report to the Founder and Managing Director. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with other members of the team. This project is based at the Bangalore office.

  • Interest in the impact investing would be an asset. 
  • Excellent communication skills is must to engage with diverse set of investors in US and Europe.
  • Ability and willingness to reach out to institutional investors, family offices and foundations in US and Europe for research and create a profile.
  • Candidate should be comfortable taking initiative and cold calling. 

2. Impact Assessment Intern
IIP interns will:
  • Conduct analysis of the theory of change, and its potential impact on our investors operating in agriculture, health care and education sectors and prepare a detailed framework/ tools to capture and report social impact.
  • Identify global best practices and benchmarks and suggest gaps and ways to address them keeping in mind resource constraints of early-stage social enterprises. This project may require travel to multiple locations including rural areas of the country.
  • Interest in the impact investing would be an asset. 
  • Excellent communication skills is critical to engage with diverse set of investors in US and Europe.
  • Travel within India (including to rural areas) may be requested. 

If you are enrolled in the Global Health Program certificate, this internship will fulfill the GHP internship requirement.
