Stellar Child Care Organization
Stellar Child Care Organization (SCCO) is a Cambodian registered NGO that supports poverty-stricken families in Andong, a displaced community about an hour from Phnom Penh. With little-to-no access to clean water, sanitation, education or medical care, SCCO focuses on practical projects that provide long-term, sustainable solutions in education, family support and income generation.

SCCO was established in 2012 and is managed by a local team of Cambodians on a day-to-day basis. With strong involvement and guidance from international donors and board member, SCCO’s aims to improve the well-being of children and their families in Andong.

Education Program
With the educational program in Andong, SCCO wants to provide the children and their families with a better future. The primary goal of the project is an increase of structured quality education for all children in Andong. This goal breaks down into three sub-goals:
1) an increase in the number of children in the school (by enrolling new children);
2) an increase in the presence of the children who are already enrolled in school (and now often miss classes);
3) an improvement of the quality of education at the local school in Andong

In order to achieve these goals, not only the direct support of children is important, but also their parents play an important role. Through education and family-support programs parents are involved in the program. SCCO teaches them to recognize the value of education and provide support in order for the parents to be able send their children to school.

Intern Responsibilities: IIP interns contribute to the SCCO Education Program. Specific responsibilities include planning, teaching and assessing extra classes (classes of students who are diverse ages and learning levels) in Andong, a displaced community outside of Phnom Penh. Teaching can include activities such as team-building games, educational games, arts and crafts and English and Computer classes. Interns may also teach English and/or Computer lessons to the mothers that work in SCCO sewing centre.

Qualifications: IIP candidates with interests in teaching, English and/or Computer Science are encouraged to apply. Previous teaching experience would be an asset but is not required.

SCCO expects volunteers to have a very pro-active attitude and is looking forward to hear what further ideas/interests you have that can contribute to the program.
