The Bubble

Organization Overview
The Bubble is the leading digital media and news company that provides content in English about Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Latin America, with particular emphasis on politics, the economy, and lifestyle. The company’s original objective was to provide the news from a foreign perspective for its general audience, which consisted mostly of expatriates living in Buenos Aires. It has since become a reputable independent news source in the midst of the local media that reflects the highly polarized political climate in Argentina. The digital media company has also since added a podcast, has an entire section devoted to Brazil, and is actively exploring expansion to other countries in Latin America.

1. Lifestyle Journalism Intern
Editorial interns who work in Lifestyle will cover a wide range of topics, from culture to the arts to food and drink to human-interest stories. They will report to the Lifestyle Editor and hold weekly meetings to share pitches and ideas and track progress on current stories. Their objective will be to publish unique, interesting, and appealing stories about Buenos Aires and/or Argentina from a fresh perspective. Participants will be able to weave their own personal interests and focal points into content development, e.g. sustainable fashion, the underground art scene, gender issues, food and drink, and more.

Interns will create content that is aligned with the company’s tone and appealing to its readership, while maintaining the tight and timely deadlines required by a media company. Daily tasks will include covering stories as assigned by the editor to proactively researching ideas for new pieces, story development, preparing drafts using WordPress, incorporating feedback from editors, and abiding by the company’s style and formatting guide.
At the close of their internship, participants will have a portfolio of published work; a strong working knowledge of Argentina’s culture and customs; know-how regarding publishing tools (WordPress); and knowledge of how the digital media industry works from the inside.

Strong writing and reading comprehension skills.  Study of communications and/or the humanities not required but a plus. Basic knowledge and understanding of Argentina is preferred but not required.
Minimum Spanish level required: Intermediate

2. Video Editor Intern
The video department creates short-form content, telling the news in a hyper-visual and cinematic way in order to catch the attention of today's readers. Lifestyle videos complement certain standout content, prepared in particular for social media (Twitter/Instagram).

Reporting to the Video Editor, the core project for a video intern would be providing support in the one-day filming and editing process of the “Headlines and Events” weekly video. These tasks include:
  • Creation of a sound bank (effects and music)
  • English subtitle development/support
  • Support in search of file images/clips
  • Image development using programs like Photoshop
  • Research of similar audiovisual content for inspiration/reference
At the close of the internship, participants will have gained general knowledge of video production/development, understanding the workflow and implementing editing tools to develop short-format videos designed specifically for social media.

It is fundamental that interns are eager to research, learn, and investigate, while proposing editing and animation resources to be applied to the diverse array of video content. Studies related to A/V or multimedia development, basic knowledge of programs like After Effects, intermediate knowledge of Adobe Premiere and Photoshop.
Minimum Spanish level required: Basic

This internship is offered in collaboration with Puentes Abroad. In the internship through Puentes, interns will undertake project-based work that is designed to directly contribute to one of the internship site’s key work areas so that they gain real experience and know-how through substantial, mission-driven work.  The internships are overseen by Puentes and are complemented by homestay housing.
