Organization Overview

CityTaps is a social startup based in Paris. Their vision is to bring running water to every urban home. Today, about a billion urban poor lack the basic comfort of running water at home in the developing world. CityTaps believes that running water in the home is a source of health, economic opportunity, and dignity, particularly for women and girls who bear the majority of the burden associated with daily water chores. CityTaps has developed a service, CTSuite, that bridges the gap between water utilities and the urban poor: a pay-as-you-go service that integrates mobile payment systems with the world's only smart and prepaid water meter. CityTaps believes in questioning assumptions in a respectful, fast-paced, and fun environment. Their company is looking for enthusiastic and hard-working individuals who want to work to serve the poor and make a positive difference in the world.

Intern Responsibilities:

1. Hardware Engineering Intern
The IIP intern will work closely with the CTO and the hardware engineer team to contribute to the design and the production of our smart water meters.
Tasks will include: specifications, search for existing available product, design, prototype evaluation, industrial design, task/project management.

The IIP intern will need to show creativity when designing a product while being focused on reliability and cost reduction. A background in engineering and experience with a few projects in hydraulics and/or mechanics and/or electronics would be useful. Speaking French, while helpful, is not required.

2. Data Analysis Intern
The IIP intern will  join the technical team and refer to the CTO. S/he will work on the data collected by the service. Every meter installed in the field sends data at a regular interval. The main goal of this IIP internship will be to analyze this data, find patterns and develops a value-added service based on this knowledge.
The IIP intern will work closely with the field operation team and the engineers to understand and interpret the data. S/he will focus on increasing the reliability, accuracy and relevance of the analysis.

A background in computer science and an understanding of DB patterns are required. Having some experience with data analysis projects is a plus. Speaking French, while helpful, is not required.

3. JavaScript Software Development Intern
The IIP intern will work closely with the CTO and the software development team to design, develop, test and release software elements of our data management system.
Such elements include communication with the IoT devices, data storage and analysis, integration with customer information system and third-party API, data presentation through web interfaces and API. The stack is full JS. The IIP intern will focus on increasing the reliability and quality of the code, and on the documentation of its development.

A background in computer science and experience with JS development (front end and/or back end) are required. Speaking French, while helpful, is not required.

General Qualifications:
IIP candidates with intellectual curiosity, strong interest in international development issues and a commitment to social justice are encouraged to apply. A background in engineering and few projects in fields relevant to one of the missions are necessary to be able to contribute immediately to the project: see specific internship descriptions for specific requirements.
French language skills would also be an asset but are not required.

Sophomores and Juniors are encouraged to apply.
