Intern Responsibilities:

Project 1: Algorithm for Crew Allocation – Innovation and Optimization Area

As part of the ongoing growth of the business, Takargo is the group company leader in the logistics and transport business area. Takargo was the first private operator in Portugal in rail freight, focusing on logistic efficiency and service quality to offer integrated and competitive logistic solutions in the Iberian market, highlighting three business areas – Intermodal Martime Transport, Iberian Combined Transport and Specialized Transport.
 
Optimization Engineer Trainee. To work directly with general manager and with the director of the transport production department.
Intern responsibilities include:
  • Development of an algorithm for crew allocation to railway transport operations that allows minimizing the number of drivers affected and overall costs. The proposed solution should take into account the geographical dispersion of the operations, the driving skills of each driver, the driving times, the costs associated with travels, among others.
  • Analysis and identification of the various variables that must be taken into account in the crew assignment process
  • Research of crew allocation algorithms, as well as the best models in the technical literature
  • Mapping of the relevant data related to the crews
  • Implementation of the proposed methodology, monitoring and comparing with the current empirical method used

Qualifications:

Interns with a base academic background in the fields such as Engineering, Economics, and Management are encouraged to apply. Portuguese skills are a must. Other qualifications include:

  • Open minded person, interested on learning and share knowledge within a Multidisciplinary and Multicultural Team
  • Academic background in engineering areas, such as civil, industrial management or Mathematics and Computer Sciences
  • Knowledge in applied mathematics and skills in process optimization methods


Project 2: Development of operations monitoring dashboard 
Analyst Engineer Trainee. To work directly with general manager and with the director of the planning and circulation department.
 
Intern responsibilities include:
  • Development of a set of indicators that analyze and sumarize the evolution and performance of each Takargo / Iberargo’s operations
  • Analyze and study each operations, identifying their specificities
  • Define KPIs for the operations, as well as evaluate the historical evolution of these indicators
  • Develop a dashboard to monitor indicators
  • Assess the integration of these KPIs in the operational management software (Railcube)

Qualifications: 
  • Portuguese skills are a must
  • Self-Motivated, Strategic mindset, Entrepreneurial spirit and Goal oriented
  • Open minded person, interested on learning and share knowledge within a Multidisciplinary and Multicultural Team
  • Academic background in engineering areas, such as civil, industrial management or Mathematics and Computer Sciences
  • Analyst trainee with academic credentials in the area of data analytics and business operations
