The fees and expenses listed here are for Spring Semester 2022. Please read the notes below carefully, as some of the figures listed are different for juniors vs. seniors. Additionally, the Internal column refers to Princeton students, while the External column refers to Columbia students. 

Billable Items

  • Tuition - billed by Princeton: Princeton students (juniors and seniors) are billed for regular semester tuition. Columbia students are not charged Princeton tuition. 
  • Tuition - billed by Columbia: Columbia will bill students their own tuition, which depends on students' school tuition rate: https://sfs.columbia.edu/tuition
  • Program fee- billed by Princeton: The program fee list includes the cost of room and board abroad for juniors. For seniors, the program fee is $3,940. 
  • Program fee- billed by Columbia: Columbia will bill their own students the program fee, which includes the cost of room and board abroad. 
  • Housing- billed by Princeton: *For seniors only.* This represents the proportional amount of the standard room charge, calculated based on 10 weeks on campus.
  • Meals- billed by Princeton: *For seniors only.* This represents the proportional amount of the board allowance in the financial aid-established cost of attendance, calculated based on 10 weeks on campus.
  • Group Travel - billed by Princeton:  $1200 is the cost of the roundtrip flight from JFK to Nairobi. Students will meet at JFK and travel together. Princeton will bill Princeton students for this cost.
  • Group Travel - billed by Columbia: $1200 is the cost of the roundtrip flight from JFK to Nairobi. Students will meet at JFK and travel together. Columbia will bill Columbia students for this cost.
Non-billable Items
 
  • Airfare to JFK: Students will arrive to JFK independently before flying to Nairobi as a group. Cost for flight to JFK can vary depending on student's home city. This fee is estimated and is based on a round-trip economy ticket price. 
  • Personal Expenses: This includes allowances for out-of-pocket medical expenses, equipment, personal spending, tips, etc. This also includes $600 for the spring break trip to Mount Kenya (optional, but highly recommended), to be paid on-site. For seniors, the estimated personal expenses budget is $1000.
