Hybrid Solar Solutions
About: Hybrid Social Solutions (HSSi) is an award-winning social enterprise that is focused on eradicating energy poverty. HSSi empowers rural and marginalized communities by designing, selling and financing solar-powered technology for improving household quality of life and resiliency/selfsufficiency; augmenting livelihood; and enhancing social services such as education and healthcare.

Intern Responsibilities: HSSi will have specific projects defined, but the IIP interns may choose between the projects listed. In some cases two interns may team up for the same project. Here are the projects:
  • Marketing - IIP interns on this project will join the marketing team and update marketing materials such as brochures, catalogue, website and customer testimonials. The IIP intern(s) will learn about marketing strategies under the tutelage of the CEO and the marketing team and will gain experience marketing to all the important players in a social enterprise ecosystem: high-profile donors/partners as well as the bottom-of-the-pyramid customers. The interns will also have the opportunity to travel to the field to work directly with locals to collect and produce customer testimonials.
  • Sales and Tech Training - The IIP intern(s) will work with CEO and business development team to prepare training materials and videos for both technicians and salespeople in the field. Throughout this process, the intern(s) will develop a deep understanding of the technical and sales processes of a social enterprise and take on a central role in conveying best practices to HSSi employees. The IIP intern(s) will learn crucial presentation skills and work with a wide variety of people in many departments of the enterprise both at headquarters and in the field.
  • Business Development, Operations - The IIP intern(s) will join our headquarters operations team and work closely with the CEO to streamline several key components of the social enterprise operations. The IIP intern(s) will take the lead on projects including but not limited to: inventory management/warehouse operations (including designing and implementing barcoding systems) and knowledge management (organizing and maintaining all shared company information, ensuring accountability among employees for updating operations information).
  • Business Development, New Programs:
This IIP intern will work with the CEO to prepare concept papers and grant applications for new programs. This IIP intern will learn about cutting-edge social innovation strategies such as the new Pay-it-Forward and Pay-as-You-Go programs, which involve creative technical and financial solutions to unique challenges faced by social enterprises selling to rural customers.
Qualifications: IIP candidates with interests in engineering, ORFE, anthropology, environmental studies/ecology, economics, finance, and/or visual arts are encouraged to apply.
