Program Description:
Stellar Child Care Organization
Stellar Child Care Organization (SCCO) is a Cambodian NGO that manages a children’s centre and provides education opportunities for underprivileged children in Andong, a poverty-stricken community on the outskirts of the city. SCCO was established in 2012 and is managed by a local team of Cambodians on a day-to-day basis. With strong involvement and guidance from international donors and board members, SCCO’s activities are twofold: an emergency residential care facility in Steung Meanchey (suburb of Phnom Penh); and a regeneration program in Andong, to ensure the long term well-being and self-sustainability of the community.
SCCO’s residential centre is located in in the Steung Meanchey suburb of Phnom Penh. SCCO aims to provide a better future for the children of SCCO. This means that take a long-term perspective to education and well being. SCCO focuses on the following aspects: creating a safe living environment; offering good healthcare; facilitating high quality, private education; offering nutritious and healthy food; and encouraging independence. SCCO is home to 13 children from the age 5-18 years old. The children in the program have relatives they keep in regular contact with but because of extreme poverty, HIV, prostitution and/or drug abuse, they live in the SCCO centre full-time. It is always SCCO's goal with every child to eventually reintegrate them back into their families or to provide family support where needed.

Intern Responsibilities: IIP interns contribute to the SCCO Education Program. Specific responsibilities include planning, teaching and assessing extra classes (classes of students who are diverse ages and learning levels) in Andong, a displaced community outside of Phnom Penh. Teaching can include activities such as team-building games, educational games, arts and crafts and English and Computer classes. Interns may also teach English and/or Computer lessons to the mothers of the students at the Centre.

Qualifications: IIP candidates with interests in teaching, English and/or Computer Science are encouraged to apply. Previous teaching experience would be an asset but is not required.
