Program Description:
Wingu (IIP-IN Argentina, Puentes Abroad)
About:
Wingu is a NGO that empowers other NGOs and civil society organizations through technology.  The organization began in 2008 when a small group of idealists submitted a simple, yet powerful proposal to an Argentine university’s open business plan competition.  The plan consisted of providing technical tools that simplify, improve, and accelerate operations to non-profit organizations that often lack sufficient technical support, expertise, or budgets to access them. Wingu won the competition and has continued to expand ever since. Today Wingu offers implementation, training, and technical support for NGOs on website development, CRMs such as Salesforce and CiviCRM, Google Apps, data transfers, and secure online donation gateways.

Intern Responsibilities: IIP interns will work with either the web development team or the international cooperation team. The IIP intern with the web development team will take on coding projects for Wingu resource packages that the organizations offers to nonprofits, and the intern may also assist in coding for projects with nonprofit clients.  An example of a project is to assist the Customer Relations Management team in integrating some of the dozen Wingu project platforms with Sales Force.  The IIP intern with the international cooperation team will detect and analyze possible international sources of funding for Wingu.  This will require a systematic review of existing foundations, agencies, and institutions that grant funding for nonprofits like Wingu in order to identify possible new donors.  The IIP intern will then also work together with the program directors to craft grant proposals.  The goal of the IIP intern’s project is to help Wingu increase and diversify its funding, thus allowing greater impact in its work.

Qualifications: Technical coding skills required for the Web Development Interns.  No technical skills are required for International Cooperation Interns.  Advanced Spanish is preferred.

Previous work experience (in the words of a past IIP intern): Web Development Intern: I thoroughly enjoyed working on the various and diverse projects that I was assigned, from implementing the Paquete de Cursos y Talleres using Salesforce APIs to building the Donar Online data visualizations using the D3 Javascript library. Being able to learn about so many different programming languages and platforms, as well as working on projects that had tangible results, was an invaluable experience in real-world work and learning how all these platforms and languages worked together to implement amazing applications. Furthermore, being able to work with both CRM and Dev reinforced this diversified experience, and I’m very glad I was able to be a part of both teams. Writing Apex, Visualforce, and SOQL code for the Paquete de Cursos y Talleres and for implementing credit card processing has allowed me to learn more about the Salesforce platform, as well as CRM in general. Additionally, working in PHP/SOAP for Winguweb integration with Salesforce and working in HTML/CSS and Javascript on Donar Online gave me a chance to learn about front-end work and allowed me to exercise my creativity and take initiative in building my own ideas.
