Program Description:
Tonal Media (IIP-IN Argentina, Puentes Abroad)
Tonal Media is a media company with communications projects in the important northern region of Greater Buenos Aires, including an on-the-air radio (Simphony FM 91.3), two online radios (Bit & Pelagatos), a recording and rehearsal studio (La Rockola), media advertising and social media services.  The company’s experience in mass media communications dates back to the 1960s.  Radio Simphony 91.3 ( is the biggest radio station in the northern zone of Greater Buenos Aires in terms of audience, and its programming includes information of sports, music, politics, economics, and entertainment.  Bit Radio ( was founded in 2011 and is an additional online radio portal, with a young target audience. Pelagatos iRadio is an internet radio created in 2014 has more than 30.000 listeners and a complete music integrated studio. La Rockola ( was launched in late 2013 in order to offer first-class recording and rehearsal studios to bands and musicians.  Tonal Media also conceptualizes and implements on-demand media projects for clients in the areas of social media and audiovisual production. IIP interns will acquire experience and develop as professionals in the media and entertainment industry, while gaining important skills in business, communications, and marketing.
Intern Responsibilities:  IIP interns will work directly with the Co-Directors of Tonal Media and will have access to well-known journalists, production managers, and broadcast managers.  The supervisors will organize regular evaluation meetings in order to review the goals of the IIP interns and discuss challenges throughout the internship.  The professionals in Simphony are enthusiastic in receiving new colleagues from other countries and working together to grow Simphony’s impact in the region and abroad.  The intern will also work on a specific project.  Sample projects include the following:
  • Internal Radio Studios for Major Businesses: Upon the request of Mondelez International (ex-Kraft Foods) several years ago, Tonal Media conceptualized, planned, and implemented a radio station within the production plant of Mondelez.  This unique project was created in order to improve communication between Mondelez factory workers and corporate staff and to create an engaging and positive atmosphere in the production plant.  Factory workers learn how to make their own radio programs in a radio studio built inside the plant, and their programs and selected music are then broadcast through a custom sound system throughout the factory.  Due to the success of this project with Mondelez, Tonal Media would like to replicate the project for other major businesses with plants in the region.  The intern will create a professional presentation and proposal in order to present the project to other businesses.  The intern will also do a market analysis in order to determine possible clients for the project.  Together with the Co-Directors, the intern will do outreach to potential clients in order to pitch the internal radio project
  • La Rockola Goes International: La Rockola recording and rehearsal studio has had a very strong initial reception and response following its launch in late 2013.  Tonal Media is now exploring strategies to further increase the impact of La Rockola and would like to consider international outlets.  Specifically, there is interest to promote and sell La Rockola’s recording services to international bands, which could come to Buenos Aires to record their music and CDs in La Rockola’s studios, while also putting on a concert in Buenos Aires and doing tourism in the area.  The intern will research the feasibility of this concept and present a resulting proposal on how Tonal Media should advance in this area.  The intern can also carry out initial outreach to bands in the US in order to explore their interest in the proposal.
  • Publicity Spot Recording: Tonal Media has extensive experience in producing and recording publicity spots for a wide range of clients in Argentina.  Tonal Media has received initial interest from radio stations and companies in other countries to record their publicity spots in Buenos Aires, due to the lower costs here with still excellent quality.  The intern will analyze this new, potential market area for Tonal Media and determine possible proposals that Tonal Media could offer.  The intern will also investigate potential partners and clients in the sector and work with the Co-Directors to reach out to the identified.
Qualifications: IIP candidates with interests in journalism, media, communications, business, or marketing are encouraged to apply.  IIP candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, international awareness, excellent organizational abilities, initiative and problem solving skills, and ability to conceptualize ideas.  Basic Spanish is recommended.
