Program Description:
The Bubble (IIP-IN Argentina, Puentes Abroad)
About:
The Bubble is the leading digital media and news company that provides content in English about Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Latin America, with particular emphasis on politics, the economy, and lifestyle.  Founded in 2013, The Bubble aimed to provide the news from a foreign perspective for its general audience, which consisted mostly of expatriates living in Buenos Aires.  It has since become a reputable independent news source in the midst of the local media that reflect the highly polarized political climate in Argentina. The Bubble has also since added a podcast and has an entire section devoted to Brazil.

Intern Responsibilities: IIP interns will work with the journalism team or the public relations/social media team.  IIP interns with the journalism team will be assigned daily articles to research and write, while also having the opportunity to pitch their own ideas.  Some articles may require interviews in the community and original research.  IIP interns will learn the inner workings of a newsroom and how to reach deadlines and goals while dealing with the vertigo of the news cycle.  IIP interns with the public relations/social media team will conduct projects to promote The Bubble’s website and generate more active users.  The intern may also help to plan key events in Buenos Aires that The Bubble helps to host.  PR interns are taught organizational skills and logistics in order to increase their capability for event planning.

Qualifications: IIP candidates who are aspiring journalists are encouraged to apply. A basic understanding of Spanish is recommended. A general knowledge of Argentina would be an asset.

Previous work experience (in the words of a past IIP intern): I experienced working in a fast paced news environment, writing breaking news articles and re-capping Argentine sources. My Spanish language reading skills have definitely improved, as has my ability to learn about contemporary Argentine politics. My most rewarding experience was that I was able to go to a swing club and interview dancers on the rockabilly and swing culture, which fused all of what I love--dance, cultural immersion, and reporting.
