Program Description:
Ashoka Argentina (IIP-IN Argentina Puentes Abroad)
About:
Ashoka strives to create a world where every young person grows up to become an adult changemaker, capable of taking creative action to solve a social problem; a world where the development of young changemakers and the practice of changemaking are the norm.  Ashoka’s vision and understanding of the world comes from their experience in pioneering the field of social entrepreneurship over the last 35 years—finding, selecting, and supporting the world’s leading social entrepreneurs (Ashoka Fellows). The network of more than 3,000 Ashoka Fellows is implementing system-changing solutions to human and environmental problems in 89 countries. The work with Ashoka Fellows allows the organization to recognize patterns of social development across various fields, providing key levers and a new framework for living in the world as a changemaker.  The Buenos Aires office of Ashoka coordinates its social entrepreneurship programs in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.

Intern responsibilities:
IIP interns will have the opportunity to become immersed in the world of social entrepreneurship through their projects.  Interns working in the Search and Selection area will summarize application documents, conduct research on the social issue context, and translate materials and interviews regarding the individuals who are candidates for the flagship social entrepreneurship Fellowship program.  Through this work, interns will learn about key social issues being addressed by Fellow candidates, while helping to craft compelling portfolios for these candidates to be considered before the Ashoka selection panel.  Interns in the Program and Event Coordination area will work with the Ashoka team on the organization’s largest annual event “Encuentro Generación Cambio,” which seeks to raise awareness around the idea of changemakers and social entrepreneurship.  The interns will work on outreach and promotion to spread the word about the event, including the use of social media and the creation of partnerships.  The interns will also help to coordinate logistics and details for the event, as well as assist in the implementation and follow up.  Through this work, the interns will be exposed to leaders in the social entrepreneurship field and learn about event promotion, planning, and implementation.

Qualifications:
IIP candidates with interests in the humanities, business, economics, and/or social entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply. Strong research and writing skills are desired.  Intermediate to advanced Spanish is required to successfully complete project work and become an integrated part of the Ashoka team.

Previous work experience (in the words of a past intern):
Responsibilites included: knowing the structure of the organization and being well-versed on its vision and different approaches to change-making. Ashoka Collective: Collecting documents and noting important events in regards to the fellow's organizations in Argentina to be put on an online database for those interested in entrepreneurship and social innovation. Going on the fellow's websites and facebook pages to determine the most important and relevant events and documents. Fellow Library: Creating a library of documents and stories about the fellows who work specifically in empowering youth and promoting an environment of building empathy. Contacting the fellows to send relevant documents.  Young Changemaker Stories: interviewing fellows and searching through Ashoka and internet resources to find inspirational stories from young changemakers. Compiling it all in a brochure, to advertise the power of the youth connected to Ashoka. Translating all the documents and rewriting them in English and Spanish. Congreso de Educacion II- attending the discussion on education in Argentina and writing a summary in English and Spanish.  Changemaker School Video: writing English and Spanish subtitles for the changemaker school video. The most rewarding aspects of my work included 1. Interviewing some of the Ashoka fellows about the work that they are doing and hearing about how they first started their organizations, and how they’ve grown over the past few years; 2.Reading stories about the young changemakers affiliated with Ashoka.?Meeting and talking to the other people in the ‘social innovation hub’ office where we worked; 3. Attending the conferences and hearing all of these educational administrators, social entrepreneurs, student leaders, and creative artists speak."
