Planeta Oceano
About:
Planeta Oceano is an award-winning conservation organization that received the prestigious Rolex Award for Enterprise. This nonprofit organization is committed to conserving and restoring coastal and marine environments in Peru, through multi-disciplinary research, education, awareness and sustainable development initiatives that empower active community participation.

Intern Responsibilities: The IIP interns will contribute to two projects: Planeta Oceano’s flagship project, the ‘Manta Ray Conservation in Northern Peru’ project, and a project focused on operations.
  • The Manta Ray project focuses on the protection of giant Mantas and promotion of ecotourism around Mantas via Research and Partnerships. The IIP intern will help with research and complete an in-depth marketing analysis of the organization to better design the ecotourism experiences and assess the impact on the livelihoods of the fishermen involved in the project. The IIP intern will also assess partnership best practices with universities or organizations interested in biology and conservation, to help Planeta Oceano expand its reach beyond local organizations and private institutions.
  • The Operational project will focus on the internal functioning of this small nonprofit. The IIP interns will help Planeta Oceano scale up by identifying ways to improve the packaging and sales of their offering, as well as delivery medium. The IIP interns will also look at how to improve the organizational structure and management of the organization to allow Planeta Oceano to take full advantage of incubators focused on conservation, available to them
Qualifications: IIP candidates interested in gaining experience in dynamic small organization, marine conservation, business development, community empowerment and sustainability are encouraged to apply. The organization seeks a highly organized and independent student with critical thinking, active listening skills, creative and strategic thinking.  An interest in finances, fundraising, crowdfunding and/or incubator for social enterprises would be an asset. Spoken and written Spanish would also be an asset.
