The "Grupo de Estudos dos Novos Ilegalismos" is a research group housed within the sociology department that focuses on illicit economics, development and violence, with a focus on popular illegalities and their forms of control, such as drug trafficking, informal commerce, and clandestine means of transportation.

Intern Responsibilities:

Database Analyst Intern
As part of the Research Group on New Ilegalities from the Department of Sociology at the Fluminense Federal University, the IIP intern will participate on the Project: "Data activism: Analysing shootings and Police operations in Rio de Janeiro". The work will revolve around:
  • Gathering of materials in official archives on state violence
  • Assistance in creation and updates of databases
  • Analysis of data on shootings, and police operations in newspapers, social networks and official data
  • Participation in discussion meetings on police and criminal practices

Qualifications:
  • Basic level of Portuguese required.
  • Ability to collect data from archives.
  • Basic database building capacity.
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis.
