Fundación Pro Eco Azuero

Organization Overview
The Azuero Eco Foundation was founded by a group of scientists and local landowners interested in sharing the joy of conserving local wildlife through restoring the dry forest they depend upon with the larger community. Since 2010, they have been dedicated to reforestation, habitat restoration, sustainable land management, and environmental education with the mission to:
  • Preserve the earth’s ecosystems
  • Protect biodiversity
  • Promote healthy communities by helping people to make informed decisions, take sustainable actions, and share knowledge

Intern Responsibilities:

1. Fundraising Intern
Ideal candidate has a passion for the environment,  wants to learn more about environmental initiatives and is very organized. Understanding the needs of the organization, the IIP intern will:
  • Draft grant proposals and develop funding plan (including but not limited to funding events, crowd fundings, grant writing, corporate voluntarism, among others)
  • Expand and enhance databases of companies and grants to assist organization gain more support in Panama and internationally
  • Interact with Corporate Social Responsibility departments to increase their support for environmental cause
  • Participate in Pro Eco Azuero's events
Office is located in Pedasí, Los Santos, IIP interns may be requested to travel to other nearby communities.​

Qualifications:
  • Interest in environmental issues
  • Strong Writing Skills
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Proficient in English and Spanish 
  • Advanced Spanish language skills preferred (speaking, reading, and writing)

2. Reforestation Crew Intern
Ideal candidate is eager to learn more about environmental initiatives and prefers to work on the field. The IIP intern will join the team and have an opportunity to work in reforestation hand in hand with local farmers and local cattle farmers. The IIP intern will:
  • Support activities in the Reforestation Program, reforest in the ecological corridor, help out in native and fruit species tree nursery and seed bank
  • Support the organization's community projects and events related to reforestation
  • Participate in Pro Eco Azuero's events
  • Assist in conducting reforestation event with volunteers from local communities

Travel to nearby communities, and other parts of the provinces may be required.
 
Qualifications:

  • Hands On Attitude
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Takes initiative
  • Ability to coordinate large working teams 
  • Ability to assist with event planning

3. Web Communications Intern
Ideal candidate is passionate about environmental initiatives and is social network savvy. They will join the team and have the opportunity to work on social media, posting events, writing blogs, keeping the webpage up to date. IIP interns will:
  • Support communications, producing content for social media, webpage, blogs, and external media sources
  • Contribute to social media communications plan, think of innovative ways to present organization's work to the community to get them interested in the work done by Azuero Eco Foundation
  • Travel to nearby communities or Panama City may be required

Qualifications:
  • Proficient in English and Spanish 
  • Interest in environmental issues
  • Strong Writing Skills
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Ability to work with social media 
  • Knowledge of working with website including content development
  • Experience with photography and creating video preferred
  • Other duties as assigned including assistance at the library
