Organization Overview
The Health Center School (Centro de Saúde Escola - CSE) is an Auxiliary Unit of the Botucatu Medical School - UNESP (FMB) aimed at the development of teaching and offering research and assistance with community outreach programs (primary care services). The CSE is part of the Botucatu Unified Health System (SUS), accounting for approximately 30% of the municipality's primary care in various care modalities: individual consultations, therapeutic groups, health education activities, active search, health surveillance, home visits, counseling, exam collection, vaccination, minor surgical procedures, dental procedures, among others. The Medical School (FMB) of São Paulo State University (UNESP), Botucatu Campus is a respected institution that offers free public higher education in medicine. Teaching at FMB is strongly based on a scientific, ethical and humanistic view and is committed to citizenship. The mission of our Medical School is to prepare highly qualified professionals by developing their critical thinking and making them aware of their role in the society. FMB is renowned as a model of teaching, research and outreach services in Brazil and abroad, offering undergraduate programs in Medicine (90 slots per year) and Nursing (30 slots per year), 40 medical residency programs, 53 professional development programs, 2 multi-professional residency programs, and 12 graduate programs.

Intern Responsibilities:

1. Public Health and Primary Care Intern
The IIP intern will experience and shadow healthcare professionals as they are engaged in their primary care activities as part of the Medical School practice. The IIP intern will be expected to engage in several activities:
  • Accompany consultations – always supervised by a doctor and professor; 
  • Participate in group discussions and work;
  • Participate in prevention programs; 
  • Take part in health education programs; 
  • Understand the Brazilian public vaccination program;
  • Understand the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) with a focus on primary health care;
  • Become familiar with the “family health units” methodology.

The CSE is open to high performing candidates interested in health fields and who possess critical thinking skills, active listening skills, outstanding research skills, who are proactive and hands-on, and would like to have early practice working in the public health field. Premed students are strongly encouraged to apply.
Intermediate level of Portuguese (listening/speaking) is required; Advanced is preferred. *Basic level of Portuguese is accepted if fluent in Spanish.

This placement is offered in collaboration with Veredas Institute.​
