Organization Overview:
International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. International IDEA’s mission is to support sustainable democratic change by providing comparative knowledge, and assisting in democratic reform, and influencing policies and politics. 

International IDEA acts as a catalyst for democracy building; by providing knowledge resources, policy proposals and supporting democratic reforms in response to specific national requests. It works together with policy makers, governments, UN organizations and agencies and regional organizations engaged in the field of democracy building. 

International IDEA develops, shares and enables the use of comparative knowledge in its key areas of expertise: electoral processes,constitution building, political participation and representation, democracy and development and democracy assessments. It also addresses the important issues of gender, diversity, and conflict and security as they relate to democracy. 

International IDEA is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and works worldwide through offices in New York, Brussels, The Hague, Latin America, Africa and Asia. 

#1. Electoral Process Intern
The International IDEA Communications team works to increase the visibility of the Institute’s work through partnership development and outreach. The intern would contribute to this work by doing the following.
  • Research on various democracy and election-related topics. These may include the financing of elections, cybersecurity in elections, electoral risks and conflicts, and electoral justice. 
  • Systematize and analyze of information and data from academic papers, news, databases, and surveys.
  • Draft, review and editi of texts including op-eds, articles, and various publications.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the organization of events that bring together academics and practitioners. 
  • Sound understanding of democratic processes and institutions.
  • Analytical, drafting, editorial and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assess, manage and structure information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office package (including Excel) and Internet.
  • Fluent written and oral English required. Any other widely spoken language in an International IDEA priority region would be an asset.
#2. Global State of Democracy (GSoD) Intern
Key responsibilities for this position includes:
  • Assist team in organizing, preparing, and attending to logistics for the upcoming launch conferences and events of the GSoD report;
  • Assist team in the internal evaluation of the GSoD report, including compiling lists of participants, note taking, and lessons learned;
  • Compile and collate notes from the launch events of the GSoD report with feedback from the participants;
  • Keep track of, and update, social media and analytics of GSoD products;
  • Assist with research on the upcoming GSoD In Focus briefings due in the first half of 2020;
  • Assist with graph visualization for GSoD presentations.
  • IIP interns pursuing concentrations Political Science, International Relations, Law, Public Administration, or a related field are encouraged to apply. 
  • Knowledge of R would be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English. Working knowledge of Spanish, Arabic, or French is an advantage.

#3. Secretary-General's Office Intern
IIP intern selected for this position will assist in various capacity including but not limited to the following responsibilities. 
  • Project management focusing on event related components linked to International IDEA’s 25th Anniversary;
  • Draft concept notes, invitations letters, social media posts, articles etc linked to a thematic/regional area of expertise for International IDEA;
  • Organize logistical tasks linked to International IDEA’s 25th anniversary;
  • Provide input for communication, marketing and outreach related elements, linked to International IDEA’s 25th anniversary;
  • Provide support to the Secretary-General and his team as requested.
  • Strong understanding and interest of democracy related issues, global politics, diplomacy and multilateral organizations;
  • Excellent communicator with a demonstrated experience of drafting documents and informational material intended for different audiences and communication channels;
  • Ability to work in a proactive, independent and efficient manner, with an ability to multi-task and switch contexts according to changes in priorities;
  • Positive, creative and motivated team-player.
  • Excellent oral and written English. French/Spanish/Arabic/Swedish is an asset.

#4. Communications Intern
The ideal intern for this position will have a sound understanding of  International IDEA’s global presence and be conscience of the news cycle in order to curate and disseminate an internal daily news briefing, based on media monitoring results.
  • Provide assistance in the reporting and writing of articles related to the organization’s events and global impact.
  • Participate in the online publishing process, as necessary, by generating ideas for various content types, and drafting, editing, and proofreading articles.
  • Contribute to the organization of the team’s photo library. (Photos and graphics inventory)
  • Assist in drafting and/or reviewing leaflets, invitations, infographics and GIFs for use on social media and the organization website, as needed.
  • Produce and edit video content for interviews and social media campaigns.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor and/or any other person designated by her;
  • Actively integrate a gender and diversity perspective in all activities.
  • MS Office, Adobe Creative (InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop), Adobe Premiere or Final Cut, website content management systems, HTML 
  • Fluent written and oral English required.
