Brown in Italy, University of Bologna
The ancient city of Bologna is one of Europe’s great centers of learning and a superbly preserved jewel of medieval charm. The program is based at the Brown in Italy office in Bologna, near our partner institution, the University of Bologna (UniBo), the oldest in Europe, with a proud history of dynamic, well- respected scholars like Dante, Petrarch, Erasmus, and Copernicus.
Brown's Bologna program begins with a one-month orientation during which students learn about the city and meet with on-site staff to discuss course selection. The orientation equips students with the skills and knowledge they need to participate in a full-immersion study abroad experience. In addition, students enroll in the equivalent of three 60-hour courses at the University of Bologna. Students have access to the full range of academic offerings at the University of Bologna. Spring students may also take one studio and visual arts course at the Accademia di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts), if they can provide a portfolio of their previous work.
Application Process
Students interested in applying to this program must complete two separate processes:
- Apply directly to the program. Visit the program website directly for application instructions and deadlines. Please note that program application deadlines are often earlier than Princeton approval deadlines.
- Complete the Princeton approval process. You may download the course approval form and instructions from your GPS application. Click “apply now” on this brochure to access these items. Check GPS for Princeton’s approval deadlines.
