  • JCU application deadline: January 31, 2021
  • Princeton application deadline: October 16, 2020
James Cook University offers students in the EEB Department the opportunity to study at Australia's leading tropical research university and Queensland's second-oldest university. JCU has several campuses, the main one being in Townsville, close to the Great Barrier Reef.

The University

As one of the world's leading institutions focusing on the tropics, JCU is surrounded by the spectacular ecosystems of the rainforests of the Wet Tropics, the dry savannahs, and the iconic Great Barrier Reef. The unique location enables students from Australia and overseas to study in a diverse physical environment unparalleled by any university in the world.

The Setting

JCU has two campuses, one in Townsville, and one in Cairns. Townsville is Australia’s largest tropical city with a population of around 190,000. It’s a thriving coastal city and port, and a stepping-off point for visiting the Great Barrier Reef. The resort regions of the Whitsunday Islands and Mission Beach are within easy reach, as are historic outback towns such as Charters Towers.

Academics

Courses:

Students will enroll in a full course-load while at JCU, which is a total of 12 points and four courses total. Courses can be found in the areas of Biology, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Anthropology, and more. You can visit the JCU study finder for a detailed list of courses. Please note that what we call "courses" is referred to as "subjects" at JCU.
