Vieira de Almeida & Associados is a top law firm in Portugal, providing legal services in Portuguese-speaking countries and Francophone Africa. They practice in 10 countries on four continents, serving major corporations and governmental departments assuring integrated legal services that combine international standards with an in-depth knowledge of the local markets. Placements for IIP interns are offered in one of several departments within the firm.

Intern Responsibilities and Qualifications by department:
  • Oil and Gas-
    • Intern Responsibilities will include: carrying out research on the unique set of legal, commercial and practical issues arising in the full cycle of oil and gas development; assisting lawyers in the response to clients on projects and transactions throughout the oil & gas value chain, including upstream developments, LNG projects, regasification facility projects, mergers, acquisitions and divestures, joint ventures, unitizations and joint developments, cross border pipelines, financings, etc.; identifying and developing innovative approaches to cases presented by the Oil & Gas Practice Area or other practice areas of the firm; and contributing to the production sharing contracts, concession contracts, participation agreements, operating agreements, field unitization agreements, the full range of service contracts, pipeline transportation agreements, storage, gathering and interconnection agreements, engineering, construction and procurement agreements.
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in law or consulting, and a knowledge of Portuguese or French (both written and oral).
  • Infrastructure, Energy & Natural Resources-
    • Intern Responsibilities will include: carrying out research on the unique infra-structure, energy and natural resources sectors(including sponsors, awarding entities, construction companies, operators and financiers); assisting lawyers in several development phases of a project, such as structuring, legal due diligence, drafting, negotiation and closing; identifying and developing innovative approaches to cases presented by the Projects Infrastructure, Energy & Natural Resources Practice Area or other practice areas of the firm; and contributing to the development and financing of projects (PPP, Corporate, Acquisition and Project Finance), secondary market (including refinancing and acquisitions) and regulation and public procurement (Licenses and concessions, design and construction and EPC contracts, equipment supply, etc.).
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in law or consulting, and intermediate or advanced skills in Portuguese or French (both written and oral).
  • Real Estate & Environment-
    • Intern Responsibilities will include: assisting lawyers in most of the areas regarding the Real Estate area, namely investment or disinvestment - in real estate, construction, restructuring, distribution, tourism and services -  comprising several stages (e.g. due diligences, structuring of Investment Funds, company or assets restructuring, funding and creation of guarantee packages, etc.); identifying and developing innovative approaches to cases presented by the Real Estate & Environment Practice Area or other practice areas of the firm, such as Tax, M&A, Planning or Litigation, due to its theme proximity and added value; contributing to the development  of legal advice on Environmental Law in all fields, specifically, environmental due diligence procedures and assessment of the environmental compliance level of companies, environmental impact assessment and other environmental assessment procedures and all aspects related to environmental and industrial licensing; and contributing with ideas on environmental matters regarding several deals and projects in the areas of real estate and tourism (shopping centres, hotels, tourism development projects and golf courses), industry, renewable energy and exploitation of natural resources.
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in law or consulting, and intermediate or advanced skills in Portuguese or French (both written and oral).
  • Financial Services-
    • Intern Responsibilities will include: assisting in the implementation of new of financial control and management instruments; carrying out research and business cases for the innovation of investment process; identifying and contributing in the implementation and update of the reporting process; analyzing and assisting in the preparation of the firms’ short, medium and long term financial strategic plan; and monitoring and proposing future upgrades of the Business Intelligence platform, with the input of several departments for KPI management.
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in finance, and intermediate or advanced skills in Portuguese or French (both written and oral).
  • Business Development department -
    • Intern Responsibilities will include: identifying new business development opportunities within several sectors and/or target clients; analyzing the markets’ dynamic and identify opportunities of business development; carrying out competitive Business Analyses; developing and implementing projects related with Client Relationship Management (CRM);
      researching market and competitor prices and contributing to Practice Areas as it pertains to the development of pricing policies; and monitoring and proposing future upgrades of the Business Intelligence platform.
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in economics, marketing and/or consulting, and intermediate or advanced skills in Portuguese or French (both written and oral).
  • Corporate Communications & Image department -
    • Intern responsibilities will include: identifying and developing new ideas for content  and graphics of the Intranet and official websites; establishing a media connection and provide support to all Practice Areas; writing, updating and reviewing media information available on the Intranet and Website; drafting and editing texts related with internal communication; identifying new spaces for events and participate in event organization;and assisting in the establishment of new protocols and sponsorships within the firms’ Benefits plan.
    • Qualifications: IIP Candidates should have interest in law, a background and/or experience in communication and/or marketing, and intermediate or advanced skills in Portuguese or French (both written and oral)
